Becoming a Member

Would you like to get to know the sport of rowing, or do you already have rowing experience and are you looking for a fun rowing club where you can also sail? Then come to De Hoop; a lively association with a varied membership across all age categories. We offer both competitive, recreational and touring rowers and host a large youth section. We are the proud owners of an elegant fleet and the most beautiful terrace on the Amstel river, a vibrant club life, and for sailing enthusiasts, four of our own sailing boats  -polyvalks - in Vinkeveen.

We welcome you as a member!

Introductory meetings

Our New Members' Committee organises introductory meetings:

  • Every 1st Sunday of the month at 12:15pm* and
  • Every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 20:00*

At meetings held on alternative months, information will be given in English.

  • The meetings are open to rowers and sailors with or without experience considering joining De Hoop
  • Location: in the small club room - upstairs, to the right of the large club room
  • It is only possible to register in person as a member of De Hoop. This can be done during the meeting. You can fill in the registration form on the spot or download it in advance, fill it in and bring it to the meeting. Membership registration will be confirmed in writing
  • Please register in advance by sending e-mail to the secretary. Please mention your name and phone number in your e-mail and indicate on which date you would like to attend the introductory meeting.

 * Please note that sometimes an introductory meeting cannot take place due to events, holidays or for other reasons. Always check the Agenda for the dates!

Inexperienced rowers

  • Rowing requires intensive instruction. Every new member with no rowing experience is assigned to a basic course (S1) comprising 1.5-hour lessons twice a week for two months. There are costs associated with the instruction. For further information, please see the instruction and exams page.
  • At the introductory meeting you will be told whether there is a waiting list at that time. Membership fees are payable prior to joining the first lesson. You can download the registration form for lessons in advance and bring it to the meeting.

Experienced rowers

  • Experienced rowers wishing to become members can pre-row directly during the introductory meetings on the Sundays to have their competence assessed (n.b. please come in or bring suitable rowing clothes). Depending on performance levels, permission to row in certain types of boats will then be provided.
  • Experienced rowers, who have attended a meeting on a Tuesday evening, and would like to become members, can pre-row on the first following Sunday of the month.
  • Please note that we assume that you can swim should you accidentally fall into the water.

NOTES.

Sweep rowing: For the B2 qualification, you row in a 4+ and or the B3 in a two-seater.
Sculling: For the S2 qualification, you row in a C1x and for the S3 qualification, in a skiff.

To keep track of the number of rowers for a Sunday exam slot, we ask you to sign up in advance by emailing nemaxe.[antispam].@karzvdehoop.nl, mentioning your rowing CV and the type of boat you want to row in.

Membership Fee

In the first year of membership, a proportional part of the membership fee is paid (depending on the remaining number of months in the calendar year) and in addition to the membership fee, the compulsory KNRB membership, you are also required to pay a one-off signing-up fee and a deposit for the access tag, after which, as a new member, you will receive a voucher of €25 towards the purchase of the club rowing outfits at Roeigoed. See further under membership fee for more information.

Amsterdam residents in possession of a city pass can also become members. The membership fee is then partly paid by the City of Amsterdam. If you are in possession of a city pass and would like to become a member of De Hoop, please send an e-mail to eitartsinimdanedel.[antispam].@karzvdehoop.nl
